Leech Assault in a Rainforest!
Cheers buddies!

With my final last all mentioned and performed, my time in Australia is coming to a fast finish. I solely have rather less than two weeks left within the land down beneath! After that—Lucas, our buddy Emma, and I will probably be flying over to spend every week on the north island of New Zealand. I’m wanting ahead to that, and make sure you look out for a weblog publish about our adventures!
As a break from finals and heart-breaking goodbyes, my buddies and I made a decision to go on an off-the-cuff hike via a rain forest within the Dandendong Ranges outdoors Melbourne within the Yarra Valley. What we thought can be a calming saunter via breathtaking surroundings changed into a catastrophe as soon as we have been attacked by blood-sucking leeches.
It began out simply advantageous. We employed a few vehicles and my buddies Nicole and Kim drove us the two-ish hours to our climbing spot. The drive was via many winding roads, and there was even snow on the aspect of the street! Snow In Australia! Who would’ve thought?
After we began climbing there was a light-weight drizzle and the rainforest was soaking moist, however I suppose rain is what one ought to count on in a rainforest. We carried on, taking in the entire views (take a look at the images!)—it was stunning! However then a few quarter of the way in which via the hike, we got here throughout a moderately massive stream. We are able to’t go over it. We are able to’t go beneath it. So, we’ve bought to undergo it! So we did.

It was innocent at first—at worst we thought we’d simply have some soggy footwear, however that’s nothing to fret about. However then, as we have been crossing a bridge, my buddy Joel dropped his costly, university-issued wristband into the river, so we needed to cease and try to fish it out. Subsequent factor we knew, tiny leeches had connected themselves to a few of us and began sucking our blood. We freaked out attempting to get them off! It was a disaster, and listed here are some quotes from that second:
· “When you die, I die too”
· “Ahh, there throughout me! They’re throughout! Throughout my shoe!”
· “Guys, get on this stress selfie.”
· “The bottom line is to NOT panic. You’ll be advantageous.”
· “It is a catastrophe!”
· “Simply rip it off. Rip it off! Rip it!”
· “Ahhhhh!”
· “Why! Why. Ahhh”
· “Did they throw it on you?”
· “Can we get out of right here?”
· “Michael don’t fall. Michael don’t fall.”
· “Simply go swimming!”
After about 5 minutes of panic, we ended up fishing out the wristband and avoiding leeches for the remainder of the hike. Disaster and all—it was a fantastic break from finding out! Not many individuals can say they’ve hiked a rainforest!
I’ve a number of extra blogs to publish of my time in Australia, so be looking out for these!
